The Nigerian Communications Commission and the Consumer Protection Council held a meeting on July 2nd, to investigate call masking in Nigeria on the directive of the National Assembly. The meeting was also held to review the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two government organizations and discuss how to work together to improve complaints resolution of telecommunications consumers.
Speaking at the meeting, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, said masking of calls with another number, especially international calls is a matter that has been trending and the NCC has been directed to address it as it has security implications.

The 84th Edition of Telecom Consumer Parliament (TCP) organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission, held at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, on 28th June, 2018. The theme of the event is: “Improving Service Delivery to Telecom Consumers: Key to Industry Sustainability".
TCP is one of the robust platforms designed by the Commission to facilitate interaction on issues of common interest among industry stakeholders. TCP has, over the years, provided a unique opportunity for the consumers of telecoms services to be enlightened and educated on burning issues in the industry.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta on June 25, 2018 hosted a public inquiry on the transfer of Licence and Resources including 800MHz Spectrum from Visafone Communications Limited To MTN Nigeria, in line with the spirit of participatory regulation and the strategic objective of the Commission to hold regular consultation with the industry stakeholders which include Operators and Consumers.

In less than 48 hours after being inducted into the prestigious Nigeria Academy of Engineering (NAE), the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science during the 29th and 30th Joint Convocation Ceremony of the University of Jos, Plateau State.
Prof. Seddi Sebastian Maimako, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) distinguished Prof. Danbatta as an Executive and Professor whose agency has been a hub for National communications and has tremendously contributed to the Nigerian Academia by supporting and funding research and projects that have viable impacts to Nigeria’s development.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta was inducted as a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering on 21st June 2018 at the University of Lagos.
The EVC and other new fellows of the academy were inducted during the 2018 Annual Lecture of the NAE and investiture ceremony of the 10th president of the Academy.
According to the NAE, Professor Danbatta was selected because he is an erudite engineer and astute administrator whose administration in the Commission has tremendously transformed the telecom sector and grown Nigeria’s broadband penetration from 8% to 22%, according to the ITU-UNESCO Broadband Commission.
