Following a negotiated reduction of the N1.04 trillion fine on MTN Nigeria to N330 billion and in line with the staggered payment arrangement, MTN has, so far, paid N275 billion to the Federal Government.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta has said NCC is poised to facilitate the laying of 120,000 kilometers optic fibre infrastructure by 2023. He noted that when this is done there will be an exponential increase in the contribution of telecom to GDP which presently stands at 9.5 percent.
Danbatta stated that data usage has quadrupled from 20 terabytes in 2015 to 85 terabytes which indicates that NCC has facilitated the expansion of the frontiers of access to ICT.

The congratulatory message and latent exhortation by the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta to stakeholders to revel in and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, was given further expression by the Enugu Zonal Office of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) which marked the day with a Road Show in Enugu metropolis on May 17, 2019.
The Day which also marked the 154th Anniversary of the founding of the International Telecommunication Union - the United Nations agency superintendenting telecommunications - was celebrated all over the world to draw attention to issues of concern in the telecommunication ecosystem.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Communications, in collaboration with other sister agencies of the ministry and industry stakeholders in the nation’s telecommunications industry, joins the rest of the world today to celebrate the 50th anniversary of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2019 (WTIS-2019).
The WTIS is a global event of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) which has been celebrated annually since 1969, and this year’s edition holding today (May 17, 2019) coincides with the 154th anniversary of ITU.
