The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta has said the NCC, in keeping with its mandates and the 8-Point Agenda, will continue to inform and educate the telecom consumers on their rights, new developments in the sector and other emerging issues they need to know about.
Danbatta stated this through Ismail Adedigba, Head Information and Reference at the Consumer Affairs Bureau (CAB) of the Commission who spoke in his stead at the 50th Edition of the Consumer Town Hall Meeting held this afternoon at Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.
The EVC said NCC thematized the management of cybercrimes on the sensitization of telecom consumers about their roles in preventing the menace. This explains why the focus of the current campaign is: "Mitigating Effects of Cybercrimes: The Roles of Telecom Consumers” in order to draw attention to the rising wave of crimes in the cyberspace. Danbatta stated that the Commission also focus on the consumer because the consumer is the most important stakeholder in the telecom sector.
Accordingly, all the presentations and interventions at the meeting amplified Danbatta's voice by emphasizing the need for telecom consumers to prevent unauthorized access to their devices because smart phones and other devices are storehouses of data carrying sensitive information which cybercriminals can use to perpetrate their trades.
