The Commission said this at the celebration of Girls’ in ICT Day, organized by e-BUSINESS LIFE recently. The international Girls’ in ICT Day is an initiative launched through ITU Resolution 70 with the idea of creating a global environment that will empower and encourage girls and young women to consider careers in the field of information and communication technologies (ICTs).
The EVC, who was represented by the Director, Projects Department of the Commission, Abigail Sholanke, also reiterated the involvement of private sector organizations and the society at large to recommit to supporting every girl to develop her skills, enter the workforce on equal terms and reach her full potential.
The event, with the theme “Expand Horizons Changing Attitudes: An ICT Skilled GirlForce,” also celebrated several individuals who have contributed to the development of the girl child in area of Information and Communication Technology. Abigail Solanke was awarded "The Tech Builder" for her role in the development of ICT in Nigeria.
