The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) kicked off its 2-Day Roundtable with Academia, Industry and Other Stakeholders in the South South Region at the University of Benin, Edo State.
The theme of the roundtable session was:
“Synergy with Academia, Industry and Regulator As Accelerator For Innovation, Industry Growth and Sustainability”.

Speaking at the event, Executive Vice Chairman/ CEO, NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta who was represented by the Commission’s Director of Research and Development, Ephraim Nwokenneya, noted that the academia is a key player of innovation in all spheres of human endeavour.
Realizing that role by the Academia, NCC is committed to collaborating with the academia as an important component of the telecommunications ecosystem to work with to facilitate innovation and ensure sustainability and growth in the industry.
He added that the emerging technologies such as internet of things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, 4G and 5G technologies and other electronic technologies have led to huge opportunities and risks; hence the need for collaboration between academia, industry and regulators to ensure that these technologies are properly harnessed and standardized in such a way that they produce best benefits to humanity in terms of employment, economic growth and development and increased GDP to the country.

Also speaking at the event was the NCC’s Director of Spectrum Administration, Engr. Austin Nwaulune, who was represented by NCC’s Deputy Director Research and Development, Helen Obi.
The event was well attended by all the relevant stakeholders in the industry which ended with a question and answer session.
