The retreat was to sensitize stakeholders on the importance of social media in government activities, to provide opportunity to get fresh inputs & feedback from the sector’s stakeholders with a view to incorporating their inputs into a National Social Media guide as well as reviewing best practices on policies & programmes which promote social media for good governance.
Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman, NCC was represented at the event by Director New Media and Information Security, NCC, Engineer Haru Al-Hassan.
The former Director Public Affairs, NCC, Tony Ojobo who was a guest speaker at the event, presented a paper entitled “Managing Public Communications in the Era of New Media”.
He emphasized that “Organisations’ spokesmen should be conversant with the use of social media tools and applications so as to communicate effectively with the public”.
Ojobo further noted that “spokesperson have to know their audience while Organisations should craft a narrative so that it can resonate with the people”.
He concluded by adding that “social media is here to stay and every organisation must learn to use it effectively.
